About Naviera Armas
Naviera Armas is a Spanish ferry operator based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It was founded in 1941 on Lanzarote by Antonio Armas Curbelo; in 1975 it brought the first Ro-Ro ships to the Canary Islands, and passenger services began in 1995. With the takeover of the long-established operator Trasmediterránea, the company grew into the Armas Trasmediterránea group, which serves not only the Canary Islands but also Andalusia, Ceuta, Melilla, Morocco and Algeria. In 2025 Baleària agreed to take over the group, and Spain's competition authority approved the deal in March 2026; since May 2026 the Canary Islands business has sailed under the Baleària Canarias brand, while the Algeria lines continue to operate as Armas Trasmediterránea.
Ships and fleet
The fleet consists of Volcán-class fast ferries and conventional ferries such as the Almariya, Juan J. Sister, Ciudad de Ibiza, Ciudad de Málaga, Ciudad de Valencia and Al Andalus. On the Algeria routes, conventional ships such as the Almariya and the Volcán de Timanfaya carry up to 1,000 passengers and 300 vehicles. On board there are twin and four-berth inside and outside cabins with en-suite bathrooms, seating lounges, a restaurant and bar-cafeteria with halal, children's and gluten-free menus, WiFi, children's areas, a dog run and, in summer, a deck pool.
Routes to Algeria
From Almería, Naviera Armas sails two lines to western Algeria: Almería - Oran in around 10 to 12 hours to the country's second-largest city, and Almería - Ghazaouet in around 10 to 11 hours to the border port of Tlemcen province. Both routes run roughly once a week; the timetable currently lists sailings from September to January, with the operator running a separate summer schedule. The timetable shows the specific sailings.
Check-in, vehicles and pets
According to the conditions of carriage, you must have checked in with a vehicle on conventional ferries at least 60 minutes, or on foot 30 minutes, before departure. Because passport, customs and vehicle checks are added on the Algeria routes, you should allow considerably more time. At check-in you need a valid passport and a visa applied for in advance; a national ID card is not enough.
Cars, motorbikes and motorhomes are carried on both routes; you give the dimensions when booking. Pets travel on the Morocco and Algeria routes exclusively in the on-board kennels, not in the cabin; when boarding and disembarking, dogs must be on a lead and wearing a muzzle, while other animals stay in a carrier. A pet passport and valid rabies vaccination are compulsory.

Naviera Armas grades its cancellation terms by timing: up to three days before departure you cancel free of charge, after that the operator keeps a growing share of the fare, and discount fares are excluded from partial refunds. You travel most cheaply by booking ahead and outside the summer season; the booking window shows prices for your date, and the price overview gives an overall picture.
