From France
Marseille is the main French departure port for Algeria and serves Algiers directly. Sète, further west, is the second and covers more of the coast: Algiers, but also Bejaia in the east and Skikda in between.
From Spain
The Spanish ports lie closer to western Algeria and make for the shorter crossings. Barcelona sails to Algiers and Oran, Almería serves Oran and Ghazaouet in the far west, and Valencia goes to Mostaganem.
What to watch out for in the timetable
Traffic to Algeria is strongly seasonal. In summer, when Algerians living in Europe travel home, the ships are full and the schedule is dense; outside those months individual routes sail far less often or pause altogether. Always pick your actual date above.
